Design, Height and Location Requirements
You can install almost all common types of fence in Farmington such as; vinyl, wood, chain link, aluminum, and composite fences. You are also allowed to build just about any common fence design such as privacy fences, picket fences, and ornamental fencing. The only major thing to remember is that fences installed in a backyard (not past the rear corners of the house) can be a maximum of 6′-2″ in height and any fence installed along the side of the house (beyond the rear corners of the house) can only be a maximum of 4-ft tall.
The finished/smooth side of all fences installed in Farmington must face outward toward your adjacent neighbor(s). This means that all of the posts and rails must be installed on your side of the fence and the finished side (good side) of the fence must face towards your neighbors yard.
Fences can be installed along the rear property lines up to the front corner of your home. However, you can only go a maximum of 4-ft tall on the side of the house and cannot extend forward of the front corners of your home.
