Permit Application

Use this link to download the fence permit application. Fill out the application with details regarding your property and proposed fence. Once completely filled out and signed, turn it into the building department.

Proposed Layout (x2)

Two (2) copies of a detailed drawing of the proposed fence must accompany your fence permit application. This proposed layout will need to include any buildings or structures on the property, any existing fences, and measurements of the proposed fence.

Do I need a Neighbor Consent?…

The City of Farmington ordinance does not allow two fences to be adjacent to one another (must be over 10’ apart). Any existing fence that divides two properties must be removed. The fence project will require written consent from adjacent neighbors that are affected by the new proposed fence. It is also important to note that the city will require the cement plugs to be removed out of the ground from the existing fence.

Do I need a Survey?…

Normally, you do not need a property survey or mortgage survey. But there is an exception to this rule… If there are no existing fence that determine the property line then the city will require a survey or mortgage to verify the location of the fence is on your property. The other option is to find the original property stakes that are in the ground (iron rod).

Fences can be installed along the rear property lines up to the front corner of your home. However, you can only go a maximum of 4-ft tall on the side of the house and cannot extend forward of the front corners of your home.
